Q7 - Learning after the preliminary task
Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
From the preliminary task I feel that I have learnt from the mistakes I have made in the preliminary task. I have also learnt a few more editing techniques and this is evident from the two pictures below.
As you can see from the music magazine we can see that it is more sophisticated and the editing does not have many mistakes on it whereas with the preliminary task there is an eerie glow on the models head. The development from the preliminary to the main task was quite an achievement as there is more balance to the magazine and has things split into different places.
Overall the editing of the magazine from the preliminary task was quite a big one and the development of the magazine is more balanced meaning that it is more appealing and has a lot more to offer the reader who is going to read it.
Q5 - Attracting/addressing my audience
How did you attract/address your audience?
Grimey waves as a magazine has attracted its audience through various ways. For example from the interviews which the results were on the blog it shows that colour was very important and is considered to be one of the most important factors when looking to buy a magazine. The language inside the magazine is more of a modern day slang and this would mean that it appeal far more to the readers as the language would connote coolness to them.
Certain phrases seen in the magazine are things like fam- which basically is a short term for family or a very good friend and the word gud which means good in by itself.
Certain magazines would have liked to use much more colloquial and more of a traditional English approach but Grimey waves has not done that instead it has embarked upon a different route and decided to use language that a modern day teenager would use as its target audience as they are seen to be interested in grime as some of the grime artists out there are still in there late teens and early 20’s.
I also used some of the audience feedback from my interview to decide how to attract my audience and allowed for some changes to the style of my magazine so that it could be read by both boys and girls that are interested in Grime as grime is mostly male dominated.
Overall the addressing of the audience was meant to be a balanced and more relaxed approach the language used in the magazine was one of which many modern day teenagers use and that is how I addressed the magazine.

front cover final draft
this is my second draft for the music magazine whichg is similar to the first draft however i have changed my mind about the sell lines being seperate from the model and i decided that the sell lines will be blended with a different colour into the image
front cover first draft
this is the first draft of my music magazine which is going to be based on the genre of grime and will consist of an exclusive interview in my double page spread.
the general idea behind the front cover was to have the sell lines based around the image of the model making them more noticible and allowing the reader to have a good read of them.

Double Page Spread Analysis 2: NME
The head line of the Double page spread is very effective as it shows us some very good use of artistic values. for example the use of newspaper cutting letters is very attractive to the reader as they like something that sticks out. The use of Black and white conveys a coolness and uniqueness as the two colours contrast and bring the best views of the the double page spread. the colour scheme in the spread is simple. the use of the three primary colours red black and white adds to the realism of the spread. making the spread more easily read by an audience
The picture of Lily Allen covers the whole of the right hand side of the page meaning that she is meant to be the main focus of the whole article, leaving the left page for all of the text which the audience would presumably read about. The article is started off with a drop capital the significance of this would mean that it addresses the audience directly. The text is in four same sized columns separated by gutters so that tyhe reader doesn't get easily bored. the form of address is peer to peer, again showing that this magazine is aimed at teenagers.
the model Lily Allen's clothes match the colour scheme of the feature, her tartan shirt shows masculinity and that she is more masculine than feminine. She's stood with her hands on her hips presumably she is frustrated and trying to get her point across to the audience, however her wrists are pointing up to show the reader her tattoo. This shows her to be quite rebellious. She is looking directly at the reader connoting that she's strong and demanding attention it also shows a technicallity in the music world and that they do enjoy the things normal people.
The name of the magazine is in the house style font and colour as it always is whilst the date is in a smaller font and is in italic. This helps to create a house style which is the magazine's design that distinguishes it from the other music magazines. The picutre credits are written in a small sized font, in bold at the side of the body copy. The by-line is written at the side of the head line in the same style as the main coverline and Lily Allen's name.
Overall the double page spread is very effective as it shows us the interest in modern day articles. the editor has obviously gone for a technical casual approach to show that the modenr era needs to be satisfied.

Double Page Spread Analysis 1: NME
The double page spread is an iconic feature in a music magazine as many peopel look forward to reading what an artist is getting up to or what they do in their spare time. the double page spread here is mainly occupied with a picture of three middle aged presumably men. the picture of the three men should relate to what the article should be about. the colour scheme in the article is very simple making sure that they dont give their readersw a headache looking at the simple image. the colour blue conveys coolness and almost a laid back approach to things. rather than an interview like ordinary magazines the editor has opted for a long article which is good for those who like reading. the fact box in the corner is very unique as it means that the reader has something more interesting rather than just stare at the text. something else in the background is more features in the magazine making it more appealing to the reader and the audience and that would encourage them to buy it. On the image of the band that takes up the entire left side is very impressive. The band members are all looking towards the camera which gives the magazine a personal feel as you read through it. There is a small box in the corner which looks like a a ripped piece of paper with small pieces of information on the band. In the middle of the page is the band name in a box same colour which is spread throughout the spread. It stands out as the title as it is bigger than anything else on the page. But not so big that is becomes the only thing. There is also a shape above that says “NME loves” which gives support to the band and encourages people to buy their CD if their magazine likes it. There is an article on the page about the bands history and there are some quotes aswell which are highlighted inside a box of the same colour of the title. On the far right of the page in a column is some information on other bands similiar to this band.
the image is obviously the main feature of the double page spread and it is very eye catchy. the main article

Contents Page Analysis 2: Mojo
The aim of the use of a contents page is to show the reader what will come up inside the magazine. By doing this the reader would know what to look at the magazine and find out where the intersting parts of it are and on what page to look for it. The contents page usually is easy and simple to understand. The use of the colours black, white, yellow, and red remain consistent throughout the whole of the contents page, making sure that the contents page doesn't look too busy. The contents on the page follow one after another so that it is easy for the reader to find what they are looking for as it is in chronological order; the contents on the right hand side of the page are images and use different colours than the contents on the left hand side of the page, this is because these contents require special are more appealing to the readers and therefore the use of extraordinary features make them stand out from the rest of the contents. The use of a white background is very efficient so that the reader can concentrate on the text and not get distracted by anything else the pictures on the right hand side convey different meanings as some are of humans whereas others represent as childish . The contents on the left hand side are emphasised in bold text which lets the reader know about what the article is about and where to find it, minor details are used in a fancy font style which subverts to the conventional content pages as they commonly use a font style that is easy and simple to read. The layout also subverts the conventional layout of contents pages which usually have a straight page whereas this page has a layout that is a slightly rotated at an angle. The target audience for this magazine is people who like to listen to differnt music as this magazine specializes in Rock genre and other genres such as reggae. the magazine mojo seems quite comical as it mixes the conventional image with something more comic like.
Contents Page Analysis 1: Vibe
The contents page for the magazine vibe is very masculine with a man with gold teeth and plenty of jewellery and lots of Bling. The magazine contents page is not at all busy as the designer has not used too many colours and has opted for the eye catching brown background so that the audience would focus a lot more on the man in the background. the subheadings are in bold and in a bigger font size meaning that the audience can see what they will be getting in a magazine. the darker sized capital V presumably for Vibe allows the audience to gain insight intto a catchy name. the background to the magazine proceeds to make the magazine more professional. The use of a male model is good as it conveys seriousness as it shows a man who could be a rapper with tattoos another indicater for rising fashion skillls. in the magazine images are always important to a reader as it shows that they can view something more than text and attact a visual thought to the text. thus making the contents page more attractive.mand the audience are engaged. the contents page is not of the usual style and the information is displayed in the top left hand side and the page is consumed by an image of a male model. whereas a normal magazine would have the contents page on the right hand side which also consists of lots of smaller images.

Front Cover Analysis 3: Rap-Up
Rap up is a magazine that seems to be targetting an audience of a youthful quantity the magazine seems to be hitting at the RnB artists and industry such as the main picture which is eye candy of very attractive RnB female artsists. the use of alliteration with stop and stare is very eye catching and audiences would leap up and buy the magazine, the wording stop and stare also being part of a song is also a bonus for audiences. The clothing that the females are wearing are provocative providing a fashion sense for girls and also showing them a role model.the magazine also provides the audience with clear sell lines inviting them to buy the magazine.
Rap Up is a magazine launched in 2001 by founder Devin Lazerine. The publication was originally a website devoted to hip hop, until Lazerine decided to pitch the possibility of a magazine to several publishers. The magazine is focused on the hip hop and R&B aspect of the music industry, and predominantly features interviews with artists, actors and other entertainers. Issued quarterly, the magazine's target audience was the 14 to 28 demographic, although the demographic has become older over time.
The magazine's first two issues were one time deals, although Lazerine and his brother Cameron received attention for their age and white background. The magazine restarted publication in 2005, when it managed to sell enough copies to ensure future releases. The magazine is sold in more than 20 countries, and a separate handbook has been released, chronicling the history of hip hop. The magazine has been nominated for two awards, and is often referenced by other magazines
Front Cover Analysis 2: XXL
The magazine XXL is aimed at people who are properly devoted to music and live for it the magazine is naimed at those who can keep up with the boom fashion sense that the artisits in the picture above have. as we can se the magazine is truly devoted to those in the rap or the grime and hip hop industry and this is conveyed through looking at the front cove. the sell lines on the magazine entice the audience to buy the magazine. The clothing used for Eminem and the other artists presumably rap artists that are dressed in Black casual wear with hats sterotypical of men and teenage boys who often like wearing their hats. the fact that all the men are dressed in black conveys the shaerp coolness that they can achieve and also represents the latest swagger. the colour scheme is simple meaning that the viewer doesnt have to absorb in too much colour the colours red black and yellow and white convey coolness and as there are very few colours this means that the eye candy(the men in the front cover picture ) can be consumed without any colour clashes.
In 1997, XXL was founded by former Source staffers as well as other Harris Publication employees, who wanted to create their own magazine about the hip-hop music and culture using the model developed by the founders of The Source. The magazine's past editors included Elliott Wilson (formerly of Ego Trip Magazine and The Source)] and Datwon Thomas (former Editor-In-Chief of King Magazine). In May 2009 Datwon Thomas resigned from XXL and executive editor Vanessa Satten, who had been with XXL since 1998, was named the new Editor-in-Chief.
In December 2006, XXL took over the struggling Hip-Hop producer and DJ magazine Scratch (another publication owned by Harris Publications), re-branding it as "XXL Presents Scratch Magazine". Scratch shut down in September 2007. Other titles with limited runs have been launched under the XXL brand, including Hip-Hop Soul, Eye Candy and Shade45. XXL has released many other special projects including tour programs, mixtapes and exclusive DVDs. XXL also maintains a popular website which provides daily hip-hop news, original content and content from the magazine.

Front Cover Analysis 1 : Disorder
Disorder is a magazine that aims to target teenagers in the modern era. the title of the magazine would be equally appealing to many youngsters because most teenagers would use the word and associate the word with something being cool.
From the picture of NDubz which consists of Dappy Fazer and Tuliza who represent the average teenage rap or grime or even a ballad. The colour scheming of this magazine is very important because if it had too many colours it would look like a child aged 7-10 years of age magazine whereas are stereotypically unfond of many colours and tend to prefer the much darker colours to suit their mood. The colours that connote this are the red in the disorder and white to show coolness. The sell lines in this picture offer the reader an interesting interview and does offer them some sort of fashion sense. The writing on the magazine is quite unique and quite conventional as it appeals to the average teenage writer ass it is big and bold which stands out meaning that teenagers will be able to notice them. The costume that the group is wearing is a mean to represent swagger and the average teenage attire. The female in the middle represents an icon for many female teenagers.
